Is Massage Helpful for Headaches?

Q:         I have had massage therapy for my neck and shoulder tension in the past and I tend to hold my stress there. Recently, however, I have been experiencing headaches. Is massage something that can help?

A:         Yes, massage therapy is definitely helpful for tension related headaches. If you are experiencing severe pain, it always a good idea to head to your doctor first so they can rule out any other problems. Tension of the shoulders, neck, head or jaw can often cause tension headaches and Massage Therapy is a great option for treatment. Massage therapy can relieve muscle tension and relax your nervous system, which decreases stress and headache symptoms, giving your body a whole feeling of relaxation. Your massage therapist can guide you with stretches and home care to help with head ache relief as well. Give us a call at ProActive Rehab to book an appointment for massage therapy for your tension headache related needs!
