Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is an innovative, non-invasive treatment that delivers short, intense energy waves to help heal muscle and tendon injuries. It stimulates the body’s natural healing process by increasing blood flow to the injured tissue.

Shockwave therapy has been around for about 20 years, gaining both anecdotal and high level research evidence for its effectiveness. By using a high speed oscillating projectile, the shockwave machine is able to deliver short, intense energy waves into the tissue being treated. These energy waves activate the cellular response in the tissue, driving the healing response. As a result, longstanding, stubborn connective tissue, muscle and bony issues can be quickly and painlessly resolved.

Treatment sessions are generally about 20–30 minutes in length, delivered weekly over the course of 3–6 weeks. The best news is that permanent resolution can start to be achieved within 72 hours of the first treatment session!

The list of issues that can be treated using shockwave is long, but these common ailments typically respond very well:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Jumper’s Knee
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Bursitis
  • Shin Splints
  • Calcific Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
  • Scar Tissue Management
  • Non-healing Ulcers

Shockwave therapy is non-surgical, painless, has minimal side effects, and has a 75%–95% success rate. At ProActive Rehab we use the Storz MP 100, a state-of-the-art shockwave machine. Shockwave therapy can be a standalone service, or it can be integrated into your overall treatment plan to get you back to living as quickly as possible.
